Acai-Like Berry Smoothie

Wanting Acai but all you got are berries? Continue reading, I’ll give you the magic secret to getting that acai texture!


Residing in humid Singapore, all I needed this morning was this amazing cold berry smoothie that had the density and texture of the acai (ah-sah-hee) bowl.

Typical after an hour of yoga, (who else loves some home yoga workouts?), my body is all heated up with that inner fire ignited.

This smoothie is going to be that perfect solution during those hot summer days or just everyday if you are in Southeast Asia.

Nine Ingredients you are going to need and the benefits of them:

  1. Ripened banana : potassium, fiber, vitamin C (maintains various organs vitality and helps to heal wounds) vitamin B6 (for growth of new cells) and manganese (for bone health and metabolism). Helps digestion and gives fuel

  2. Mixed berries: antioxidants (keeps free radicals under control) , fiber, antinflammatory and provides a range of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, C , E, K , iron , potassium and more. Also included are phytonutrients which you can only get from plants: resveratol (anti-cancer and fights inflammation), anthocyanins (improves memory and eyesight) amongst others.

  3. Unsweetened almond milk : used as a liquid base, i choose non dairy so it is lighter on my digestive system

  4. Rolled oats: Fibre, increased satiety, protein and may regulate blood sugar levels, iron, zinc and a whole lot of B vitamins

  5. Peanut Butter: protein and fiber

  6. Psyllium Husk: helps to get waste products moving in the large intestine which enhances bowel movements. The husks forms a gel when in liquid and thus acts as sort of a soluble fibre.

  7. Brown and Golden flaxseeds: contain lignans (phytonutrient), omega 3 fats, antioxidants

  8. Maca Powder: the plant belongs to the brassica family (fun fact!). It is a powerful hormone regulator and contains antioxidants, balances sex hormones and increases energy.

  9. Cinnamon powder: high amounts of manganese, calcium, iron, regulates blood sugar levels because of its sweet taste and may improve insulin sensitivity

Options for substitutions here include: pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, protein powders, matcha powder, cashews




  • 1 cup completely frozen banana

  • 1/4 cup frozen berries of choice

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats

  • 1 tbsp golden and brown flaxseeds

  • 1 tbsp maca powder

  • 1 tsp peanut butter

  • 1 tsp psyllium husk


Make sure to mash the frozen bananas unless your blender is amazing unlike mine. For it to have a thick consistency like acai, the bananas do not need to be thawed in advance. The mixture of the intense cold bananas with the berries will give you this acai magic!

Put everything into a blender and mix well for a good solid 2 to 3 minutes.

Pour into a serving bottle or cup and drink!
